Help for the Poor in Nicaragua
If you know the situation in Nicaragua, then you know about the lack of jobs, the constantly rising price of food (despite the unrealistic government claims about the canasta basica), and the corruption from above that seeks to keep people in desperate need and dependency.
There are great organizations that still work in Nicaragua, and we want to tell you about ours.
Sheep Not Goats, a US-registered 501(c) (3) charitable organization, began work in Nicaragua in 2012. For most of our time there we have focused on providing employment to Nicaraguans in the small rural community of Malpaisillo in the León department (state). We built a small farm and in 2018 began training women there to knit baby blankets which we sell in the US. This ongoing enterprise is called Sheep Dreamzzz Baby Blankets.
All of the proceeds minus basic costs like yarn go to the women who knit them so they can feed their families.
You can meet our knitters here. They work in our small home in a safe, clean environment and are real experts at what they do.
So the next time you wonder what gift you can give for a new baby, please remember Sheep Dreamzzz. We know it is a mere drop in the bucket for Nicaragua overall, but for one woman-led family your choice will allow them to eat for a week while providing the satisfaction of earning by the work of her own hands.
★★★★★ I love they are handmade with love and for a purpose. I plan to give mine as a baby gift. So beautiful and soft. Buying a baby blanket gives me the opportunity to be part of helping women help themselves❤️ Thank you!! - Loretta B.
PS - Need a little more incentive? Use discount code WELCOME35 to save 35% off the price of any full-price baby blanket ($70 or more). We may not even break even on the sale, but we need to sell the blankets we have to pay operating expenses and keep the women knitting.
PPS - You can also donate directly to the Sheep Not Goats work in Nicaragua. There are 2 ways: 1) choose the add-on donation option when you buy a blanket, 2) go to sheepnotgoats.org and make a donation there.
